Redacted — Privacy Policy

Overview

Redacted is a macOS app that detects and removes personal and sensitive information from images and PDF documents. It is built and published by Brava Labs (BRAVA LABS SOCIEDAD LIMITADA, NIF B75776930).

Privacy is the entire point of this app, so we designed it to keep your data on your own Mac. The documents and images you open in Redacted, and the detection and redaction performed on them, are processed entirely on your device. We never receive, see, store, or transmit the content of the files you work with.

On-Device Processing

All of Redacted's core functionality runs locally on your Mac, with no internet connection required:

• Detection of names, faces, signatures, emails, phone numbers, ID numbers, payment card numbers, and other sensitive content runs on-device using Apple's Vision and Core ML frameworks and local pattern matching.
• Redaction (solid fills, pixelation, blur, emoji masks) is rendered on-device.
• Your images, PDFs, and saved working files (including the .redact format) are stored only where you choose to save them, or within the app's sandboxed container on your Mac.
• Your settings and any custom detection patterns you create are stored locally on your device.

The content of the files you process is never uploaded to us or to any third party.

Information We Collect

Redacted does not include any advertising, tracking, or usage-analytics SDKs, and it does not create an account or identify you. By default, nothing leaves your device. The only information that may ever be transmitted is limited, listed below, and requires an explicit action or opt-in from you.

• Crash and error reports (opt-in, off by default): Crash reporting is turned off by default. If you choose to enable it in the app's Settings, the app sends crash and error reports to Sentry, a third-party error-reporting service, to help us diagnose and fix stability problems. These reports contain technical diagnostic data such as the type of error and a stack trace. They are explicitly configured to exclude personally identifiable information, and they never include the content of your files, screenshots, or your activity within the app. You can turn crash reporting off again at any time in Settings.
• Feedback you submit: If you choose to send feedback through the app, we receive the message you write and, optionally, your email address (only if you provide it, and used solely to reply to you). If you leave the diagnostics option enabled, the submission also includes basic technical details: the app version, your macOS version, your device model (e.g. "MacBookPro18,1"), and your system language. You can review and disable the diagnostics before sending.
• Optional model download: If you enable signature detection, the app downloads an optional machine-learning model file once from our servers. This is a standard file download; we do not collect personal information through it, and the file's integrity is verified before use.

We do not collect your name, location, contacts, browsing activity, or any other personal information beyond what is described above.

System Permissions

Redacted runs in Apple's app sandbox and requests only the access it needs:

• Files you select: The app can read and write only the files you explicitly open or save, plus your Downloads folder for exports.
• Screen capture: Requested only if you use File > Take Screenshot, so the app can capture the area you select and open it for redaction.
• Network access: Used only for the optional model download, crash reporting, and feedback submission described above.

Redacted does not request access to your camera, microphone, location, photo library, or contacts.

How We Use Information

The limited information we receive is used solely to:

• Identify and fix crashes, errors, and bugs to improve the app's stability
• Respond to feedback and support requests you send us

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond what is listed above, and we never sell it.

Third-Party Services

Redacted relies on the following third-party services:

• Apple: App distribution and any purchases are handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Sentry: Crash and error reports are processed by Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry). See Sentry's Privacy Policy.

We do not integrate any advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or social media trackers into the app.

Data Retention

We do not store the content of your files on our servers—it never leaves your device. Crash and error reports are retained only as long as necessary to diagnose and resolve the underlying issues.

If you contact us or send feedback that includes your email address, we may retain that correspondence for up to 3 years for support and legal purposes, after which it is deleted.

Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights regarding any personal data we hold about you:

• Right of access: You can request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification: You can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
• Right to erasure: You can request that we delete personal data we hold about you.
• Right to data portability: You can request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Right to object: You can object to our processing of your personal data.

Children's Privacy

Redacted is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Redacted after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
